Robert E. M. Smith focuses his practice on civil litigation, insurance coverage, insurance defense, product liability litigation and business law. Having led numerous trials, he is an experienced litigator who serves clients with vigor and attention to detail. Robert is dedicated to providing exceptional client service by communicating each step of a case’s approach, objective and strategy. Prior to joining Renaud Cook Drury Mesaros, Robert served in the Office of the Maricopa County Attorney as Assistant Bureau Chief, Automobile Theft Bureau.
He is a member, as Outside Counsel, of the Arizona Automobile Theft Investigator’s Association and the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators. He also participates regularly in events with the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority and the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Robert is a nominated member to the Claims & Litigation Management Alliance, and has taught periods of instruction at Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University as a Closing Argument and Jury Selection Instructor.
A graduate of ASU’s Barrett Honors College, Robert was also a member of the Scholarship Preparation Board where he helped prepare applicants for Marshall, Rhodes and Fulbright scholarship interview process, and is a former member of ASU’s Advisory Board of Directors for the Department of English. Robert holds an LL.M in Tribal Policy, Law and Government from Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU. He served the Country as an active duty Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps where he received his Honorable Discharge.
